Do the foam dampening kits work?

for me yes, done well they work a lot better at noise reduction, but won't ever make them silent as air flow is still needed, but as part of an overall noise plan, like silent psu and less noises fans etc, water cooling the cpu etc, it all helps.

sdd over mechanical ones etc, vga cards will silent coolers or passive ones, water blocks as well also help.
 
Yes if the case is a fairly sealed unit. When I did my review on the Ghost I found because the case was so great with airflow it didn't make any difference noise wise at load :p
