Do valve give you half-life source if you add the original to steam?

I'm considering seeking out my original HL game of the year cd's the one's that came with opposing force so was wondering if they will add to steam and if Valve give you the source versions or just the original ones?

I think you get hl and most of the expansions for free, i did, when u have a certain brand of gfx card. Least i think thats how i got all the hl 1 stuff for nowt when i got steam years ago.

Im not sure what you mean by hl source as thats a mod for hl 2 isnt it i.e converting hl2 to hl1 so hl1 can use the source engine?

Edit - Hmm its a payed for thing it seems as i just peeked at it on steam. Didn't know that. As i said i have all hl1 stuff but no hl1 source. So i guess you dont get it.

I don't think it's a mod but looking at Steam i doubt that they'll give the source version for owning the original one, especially as they sell both separately.

I had the game of the year edition and only gave me the originals. Saying that you not missing out much on the source versions.

I definitely had to buy HL: Source on it's own after adding the original.

Activating a retail copy of Half-Life on Steam gets you the following.

Half Life
Half Life Blue Shift
Half Life Deathmatch Source
Opposing Force
Team Fortress Classic
Ricochet
Day of Defeat

I seem to remember getting it as a freebie with my Half-Life 2 pre-order or something. The only way you can get it now is in the Complete pack or stand alone.

Not in the orange box, but it was included in the Silver and Gold HL2 pre-order packages on Steam.

Half-Life 2 was simultaneously released through Steam, CD, and on DVD in several editions. Through Steam, Half-Life 2 had three packages that a customer could order. The basic version ("Bronze") includes only Half-Life 2 and Counter-Strike: Source, whereas the "Silver" and "Gold" (collector’s edition) versions also include Half-Life: Source (ports of the original Half-Life and Day of Defeat mod to the new engine).
