Do VAs tend to have overly sharp/harsh on-the-eyes text compared to IPS?

Hi,

I've recently purchased the AOC Q27G3XMN which has been superb for gaming but I'm finding the text a bit harsh on my eyes. It's hard to explain but the text seems blurry yet sharp/crisp. maybe the best explanation is the text looks like it hasn't got AA while my IPS does.

Is this normal for VA panels? I vaguely remember an Iiyama 34-inch VA being similar.

The text on my VA monitor always looks sharp and is in no way blurry. That said, VA is a cheaper technology than IPS, and cannot match the overall picture quality of IPS.

Have you run cleartype? That might help.

I haven't so far but i think my eyes are slowly adjusting to it.

Used Va panels always, don't get along with the IPS blacks too well but yeah my text are sharp and clear it does take a good few weeks for your brain and eyes to adjust to it.
