Answer me as if i am clueless please :)

i have been a long time used of lastpass i have no problems with it, and its free, in my chrome browser i have the extension and it auto fills or auto stores the required fields for me. My passwords are bad am 61 and cannot remember them all, however they are only passwords to forums etc, so no great loss there.

I want to start using keepassxc and store the database on my home nas (synology) dj218+ am i correct in assuming with keepassxc for it to run it has to be open as such on my desktop, unlike lastpass where i just have an extension. Kp has an extension but as soon as i closed the main program this became disabled, i guess that's the security of it. So if i want to login into a forum or whatever i "have to 1st open" keepassxc

If anyone could link me some good tutorials or tips on how to set this securely i would be really grateful

thanks

I do exactly what you are proposing to do.

You need to have the keepassxc application open on your pc and have the keepassxc extension installed in your browser. It might sound a bit cumbersome but it's not really.

Set the keepassxc application to autostart with windows. Also set it to minimise to the tray once the database is unlocked, that way you don't have to remember to open it, it won't close but you won't really notice it.

It will prompt you to unlock your password database when ever you boot up. The browser extension should then automatically have access to your database and autofill passwords for you.

I'd be happy to help you get set up.

cheers for the info, just what i was after. Also thanks for the offer of help if i get stuck watch this space :)
