Do/will any company offer multiple sim contracts?

Obviously there aren't that many people willing to sign up to two/more mobile contracts to use on their phone and tablet/laptop. Any chance that in the near future there will be multiple device contracts around? No physcal reason why not I assume (or is there an issue with GSM and multiple sims using the same number?), I guess just business decisions?

The short version is no it's not common with cloned sims as you'd be able to do some seriously naughty things with them but it is possible with other ways (2 SIMs 1 bill, multiple destination calling where 2 phones can share the receiving of a number - check out google talk). There is also, as you pointed out, not a lot of uptake for this.

Solutions like gtalk are likely to become more common before telcos join in. We would rather you were more attached to your number so you don't leave ;)

I was thinking more along the lines of being able to share a data connection between two devices without having to tether them together or swap sims... Not sure Google Talk would really be any use for that.

I think many people would never get a second contract just to use slate/tablet/laptop very occasionally on 3G when they are already paying for data on their phone. For example I've had a laptop with a sim slot for a few years but have never contemplated getting a data only sim for it because I would use it so infrequently, especially when I have a smartphone with "unlimited" data that I could technically use...
