do XFX have a problem with PSU's?

I built my PC in late December 2011, and used an 850W XFX pro and noticed the fan was making clicking noises and was generally noisy. I decided to set up an RMA with ocuk for 26th January 2012.

5 weeks later, i have my 'new' XFX psu which seems to have the same problem, only this time it also has a noise which i can only describe as a black key being pressed on an organ (only a lot quieter) as well as the clicking noise. could this be 2 failed fan controllers in a row?

Now, ive never heard a case fan like this, so why should 2 psu's in a row be like this?

The PSU is a rebranded Seasonic (so ive read), however xfx have choses ot use a cheaper fan, presumably to cut costs.

Is it too late to ask for a refund/exchange from OCUK?

have you experienced this?

Sometimes there can be a perception problem with the end user. Not saying there is with yourself but it's always best to check against someone who doesn't have a problem. Ask someone 'without' a problem to make a small video of their PSU running and then compare to yours. If yours is clearly louder then RMA again.

This is a good idea, however i dont know anybody with one :(

just to give you some comparison, my case fans (2* 120mm fractal and 1* scythe Juni 1900rpm) are running at 40% and my PSU is easily louder.

The XFX PSUs sound like a good choice for the price but this gamble as to whether you get fan noise is terrible. I would have quite happily replaced the fan to avoid all this trouble, thing is though, I wanted my warranty intact!

I dont know weather its just me being more susceptible to the noise than others
I only really notice it at night when the road noise dies down (live near the A40)
Changing the fan has crossed my mind, as i really don't want to wait another 5 weeks, but as you mention, i would loose the warranty.

Look... the bottom line is.. some products just end up being faulty. Even the fabled Sony and Apple products are sometimes defective on arrival or shortly afterwards.

It happens. I would place more in how your problem is handled.

I have recently bought an XFX pro (Not your 850W model though), and there are no issues with it. Very well build unit (externally speaking).

EDIT: Are you sure it's not something resonating?

There is a resonating noise coming from it, yeah, I forgot to mention it :p
The noise has nothing to do with air moving or anything, the fan just has an oddly noisy motor in it which does seem to be causing resonance with the psu case somehow.
