Hi,
I am thinking of upgrading my RAM as I hit 32GB+ usage when working. I have been looking at 96GB(2*48GB) kits. 5200/5600/6400 are almost the same price and the 6400 kit is cl32, 5200=cl38, 5600=cl40. I will not be running it at 6400, so the question is: do XMP kits have more than one preset profile? I remember I had a DDR3 XMP kit which had two, one was the top speed and the other was a bit lower. The kit I am looking at: CORSAIR VENGEANCE DDR5 RAM 96GB (2x48GB) 6400MHz CL32 (CMK96GX5M2B6400C32). I’m hoping it will have a second preset profile for 5200 or 5600 but they never list anything other than the top one. I don’t want to have to set value manually, I would rather just by the slower RAM. Think I could set the XMP, then just drop the frequency to 5200/5600 but this would mean running it at a higher voltage than needed which is not ideal. Anyone have an XMP DDR5 kit that has more than one profile out of the box?
Thanks.

Yes some do. Typically profile 1 is the "rated" profile the sticks should be able to run, and profile 2 is usually a faster / tighter profile that may not be stable / require further tweaking, if its present. You should be able to see the differences in your UEFI.

I think all the non-mainstream spec RAM I have with XMP have 2 profiles as above one the nominal profile and one with more aggressive timings and higher voltage requirement.

EDIT: IIRC my Kingston HyperX have 3 profiles normal, enthusiast and extreme.

OK, thanks.
Looks like no lower speed profile. Think I will still get the 6400 kit as they are likely to be Hynix M-die so should be better even if I just run them at stock 4800. Will also have a better resale value down the line.
