went to hmv the other day and noticed every series of the sopranos was on offer at £15 each, i picked up and held all 6 series. i then noticed lost, had a look and s2, 23 and s5 were on offer at £20 each and the missing seasons were about £40 each. now i have seen them all and would love to watch them all again but my sensible side got the better of me, here i was, about to blow over £200 on 2 awesome tv series but unfortuanetly, i just don't see when i'm ever going to get the time to give them the attention they deserve so i put them all back :(
do any other users buy these box sets religously if they are into a tv show and how do you watch them, all in one go, weekly etc? there was some rubbish weather days over the past few months where i would have like to have watched lost back to back all the way through but i don't know if i'd keep on returning to them?

I buy mini series. Things like Band Of Brothers. Generation Kill. Same reason as you. I won't have the time to invest in a series spanning years.

i'm glad i didn't buy them now, they're a lot cheaper elsewhere it would seem. the product in the hand sale nearly had me!

lol when's my edit of the original title going to kick in?

can i just ask what point there is in buying the original format and then converting to mkv, bledd?

I bought series 1, 2 and 3 of 24. I think we watched series 1 over the course of two days. It was a marathon, but possibly the best 20+ episode series I have ever seen.

Watched series 2, which was good, but couldn't live up to the first. Then during series 3, we realised there is not enough time in the world, and it faded.

I quite like box sets, but I would never buy Lost (aka thief of time) unless I was bed-ridden and had watched everything else in the world :p (I watched it the first time around, and the ending annoyed me-to say the least)

only if it's decent. i love all the stargate's and i have all the lost's! although they should o stopped making lost after season 3 because it went down hill after that!!

No, My mate, his Missus & teenage daughter buy them all watch them then lend them to me. System is full of win for me. :p

Buy a lot of comedy box sets i.e. Blackadder, Bottom, Men Behaving Badly.

Although me and the GF just started getting back into Smallville (mock all you want) so started buying the original series. up to series 3 now and weve spent around £11 on them (first we got for £2.40 - gotta love fleebay). Look around for bargains to be honest, second hand doesnt mean battered and broken if you are careful.

Some - usually when they're on sale.

Comedy stuff like Family Guy, Futurama, Robot Chicken...
And older retro stuff like The Professionals, The Sweeney, Miami Vice...

Never buy them at full price though.

only have friends and the o.c. (theoretically speaking neither are mine) sisters but for something like friends i think its worth it due to the fact that you can pick them up for next to nothing and imo can watch them over and over again without getting bored of it whereas a series like the o.c. is something you would watch once and not bother seeing for years and years which isn't really worth purchasing.

I do but rarely at the list price. The last TV series i goty at list price was the BSG tin which the wife got me for xmas. Everything else I wait until it is more reasonable. EG: I got all of Buffy and Angel for £90 18 months ago.

Now that Farscape is available is a slightly more reasonably priced set I might finally get it. I wanted it for years but they wanted the better part of £60 a series.

Want to get SG-1 at some point too.

We’ve got quite a large collection of UK/US crime dramas and a few others. Most of its been bought during sales.

I tend to buy complete series only if the price is right.
For example I think Third Rock from the sun cost me about £13:eek: Buff and Angel about £50 each (for the complete runs), That 70's Show £50ish.

I did have the new Farscape set, but after two sets with the same issues on i think it was S2 disc 3 (or S3 disc 2) sounding like it was going to break any second I gave up on it for now.
