In these wacky days of high speed broadband and smart TVs, do you actually need a TV aerial any more to watch live TV?

If you were moving into a place that didn't have an aerial already installed, would you bother getting one?

Nope, no tv aerial on my house (Was taken down a few years ago when it used to keep me up rattling away in the wind), no internal cables and no tvs connected to an aerial. No tv licence either. I dont watch any terrestrial tv live or otherwise.

No is the short answer..

But, my Mrs was missing Sky Q, so I got a SAT->IP box that plugs in to the old Sky Q dish and then Channels DVR (It will also work directly with Plex) for the TV guide/recording etc.. and that works well enough.

An Aerial is the worst way to watch live TV, it has the least HD channels and I can't torture my eyes by watching SD content..

If you want to watch broadcast TV then an aerial is required, yes, by definition. If you just want to watch 'live' tv and are not bothered if it is broadcast live tv, then you can get by without an aerial.

No, because who watches TV these days? lol.

No. If you really want to watch live stuff you can use that new freely thing.
But personally I binned off live tv and the tv license and the bbc in general a few years back. I'd take it as a sign.

I use a mix of streaming and aerial. I really hate having to set up endless accounts to use various different apps and services. It gets really annoying.

Same, a mix really.

There'll be times I'll watch live TV via the internet if there's a better signal but I'm running out of dross to watch on the apps.

So many apps, so much not to watch.

Place had a cable dangling in one of the rooms when i moved in, it now has a short stub of cut wire dangling.

I imagine there's a socket somewhere, connecting to a rusty pile of obsolescence, but they arent used

I have an aerial and a sky dish. Neither are connected. I no longer watch live TV but there are a myriad of online services if I wanted to do so.
