this one popped up in the local news yesterday known gangster intentionally provokes other gangster types and winds up getting shot.

now i have all the sympathy in the world for his family and any innocent bystanders caught up in the incident but this is a serious case of FAFO imo

He ***** around and he surely found out.

I'm not well versed in gangland rules but I've watched enough of The Wire to know you don't willingly give the ops your location. Scumbags all around but I find I do have a tiny shred of respect for someone who calls anothers bluff.

I dont, the family will be a bunch of cretins as well.

It's so often that they have previous criminal records where really some common sense is needed and a longer sentence for the repeated offences!

Firstly a gangster who attempted to murder someone and failed isn't exactly too different in terms of danger to society as one that succeeded... 11 years seems way too short.

In 2005 Marc Webley was locked up for 11 years after shooting an adversary from a competing drugs gang in Edinburgh, Scotland.

In 2004 Webley was at the centre of a turf war, which culminated in 2005 with him firing a gun at a rival, hitting him once.

After he was freed from jail, Webley was caged for a further six months for trying to intimidate a man into handing over £1,000 at a garage.

In 2022 he was cleared of a double-murder bid after a witness claimed she couldn't identify him.

But also, if a known gangster has previously served an attempted murder sentence and then gets found guilty of a further violent/organised crime related offence then he should surely be locked up for years again. Like that's a clear danger to society and an obvious indication that he hadn't been reformed.

6 months for that offence might make sense for someone who had not previous record of crime but in this case it's just dumb.

Then of course he seems likely to have gone on to murder two people and they couldn't convict him for it.

And there's more:

SLAIN hood Marc Webley was due to stand trial for battering his ex partner on the sidelines of their son’s football match, we can reveal.

The now 40-year-old woman was at the centre of a dispute between her new man and Webley who was gunned down on Hogmanay.

One of the former couple’s kids had been playing for Craigroyston Community Youth Football when he attacked the blonde-mum-of-three.

A source said: “Webley went ballistic and just went for her.

“There were loads of kids about as well as their own so it was absolutely horrendous.

“Parents couldn’t believe what they were seeing and a lot of people were really upset.

Why was he even out on bail given his record of violent offences? If you've got a previous attempted murder conviction and then a further gang-related charge and now an assault...WTF??? This isn't some 50/50 pub fight between two drunks but an out-of-control lunatic who was happy to beat up a woman in the daytime in front of kids.

He should have been on remand, why bail someone like him, people with records like that ought to be in the positon where if they put a foot wrong w.r.t. any future violent offences they're not getting bailed but will be on remand and given a hefty sentence if convicted... that's the whole point of prison, to keep dangerous lunatics off the streets.

I don't like the US 3 strikes and you're out stuff where someone ends up throwing their life away over something minor or where kids get years for a bit of weed or something... but there's gotta be a middle ground somewhere where blatantly violent criminals with very serious criminal convictions get serious sentences and denied bail for additional violent offences.
