Do you feed the birds?

We live in a small village surrounded by fields and get a variety. Always try and make sure the feeders are full, we usually get a large sack of Sunflower Hearts.

The Birdbath only seems to get used by Sparrows and Blackbirds. That gets shared with the cat and the dogs who like drinking out of it, but then the water bowl for the dogs gets used by the birds.

Regulars
Sparrow
Starling
Blackbird
Robin
Blue Tit
Great Tit
Goldfinch
Chaffinch
Pigeon
Doves

Occasional
Magpie
Greenfinch
Wren
Nuthatch
Song Thrush, I think
Possibly some other ****, but have not identified yet

Rarely
Spotted Woodpecker, not sure if Lesser or Great
Sparrow Hawk, last time I saw it, it was eating a Blue Tit
Bullfinch

Quite often see and hear the Buzzards high up, never up close though.
Also the sound of Owls is fairly regular in the evenings.
Very likely the greater.

Once a month :)

I gave up with nuts, they were not popular and went manky. Sunflower hearts and mealworms are always a hit and suet in the colder months.
Anyone have any comment on of thier birds use the peanut feeder?

I was thinking of getting one, but don't want to waste my money if birds don't use it.

Roughly the same + a bloody heron that keeps stabbing my fish through the netting, and a little while ago I was driving down the lane and saw in the semi darkness 2 pairs of eyes staring at me.
Turned out it was (I think) a Peregrine falcon that had nabbed one of my neighbours doves, and after speaking to him it’s a regular occurrence.
Don’t even get me started on the ******* owl that sits in a tree just outside my bedroom window and screams it’s bloody head off for half the night
Oh, and a million bats in the evening.

You are lucky getting bats. Not seen any while in the garden only when out walking the dogs.

Love the sound of the Owls, but then most of the larger trees are a distance away from the house, probably a good thing by the sound of it :D

Awesome! :)

Always over winter months. Got to feed my little friend. :)

Get bats here. Convinced it's due to the wild garden and all bugs that fly around under the oaks. They get so close to my head you can feel the air from the wings. Lovely things.

We put seeds out for a pair (and a third wheel) of pigeons but we have a very cheeky squirrel that nabs a lot of it.

Hope the pigeons have other food sources as we're out next month and no guarantee the next lot will continue - might leave the feeder as a hint.

Noticed a big increase in the number of birds who come to my feeders.
And I've noticed all of our neighbours have stopped feeding them.

Not sure if it's a cost of living thing.

I live next to a rather wild out of town park, on the very edge of a housing estate with a wild garden and 2 huge oak trees. So get a few birds.

I bet some of you guys get some amazing visitors.

We get
Common
-blue tit
-great tit
-gold finch
-house sparrow
-jackdaw
-ferral pigeon
-wood pigeon

Less common visitors
-Long tailed tit
-coal tit (for first time this week)
-green finch
-blackbirds
-robin
-collard doves

Once or twice
-sparrow hawk
-bull finch

Here's a pic of 2 baby goldfinch waiting thier turn.
10x phone cam pic through a window! So Excuse the quality!
The feeders are in an old dead conifer. Was going to cut it down but birds love it.

Violent little buggers those.
They’ll literally kill one another over territory.
Very yeah and pretty bold. This one our little friend will come and sit by the shed door waiting to be fed whereas other birds wait until you've put the food out and left. But I remeber seeing something on tele with wild boars in the forest and they would disturb the land and the Robin would eat the fresh worms by its side, totally not bothered. I wonder if it sees us as the new wild boar.

This was it!

Even though most of my visitors are starlings i do enjoy watching their antics especially love it round Spring when the babies start to appear. Its also great for cat tv since i built a catio agaist the rear window the cat can sit there all day getting entertained .

Tried the suet balls from pets at home, think they were like £12 for a box of 150. Takes the birds ages to get through them compared to the more expensive / softer ones thats the comprimise with the cost. I tend to mix up the food find they love the stuffed coconut halves, suet cakes, mealworms and general seed mix. Only downside is the extra crops growing in the garden with the amount of mess the starlings make :D

Plan is to plant some meadow seeds soon to try and have a wild part of garden come the summer.
