Do you find that your passion for posessions is gone once you've got them?

Random thread...

I was just thinking about when you really want something but then you get it and the passion that you had for it disappears...

E.g. when I purchased my nano. When I wanted one I thought they were great, now I use mine a lot but its more practical and it doesn't have the same prestige to me...

Yes, I always want something more before I have it. After I get it I get bored quickly and sell it to buy something else.

Totally agree, as soon as you own it it's not special anymore.

This reminds me of a Top Gear Episode where they drove a Lamborghini Countach which every kid wanted and hated it as it was awful.

yup, this has always happened to me, epsecially with mobile phones, and more recently laptops, for some reason i feel the need to buy it then 2 days later its sitting there unused

Yes im very much like that, ill buy something i really like but then after a few days/weeks i get bored of them and they sit in a corner gathering dust:p.

Yep, i remember pestering my mum to get me a gameboy for Christmas and when i unwrapped it i was unbelievably happy, this was when i was a kid and we didn't have much money. Now i have money and can buy nice things i don't get exited at all, money is evil :( . Its the same with games, i used to save for ages to buy a game for my ps1 and would go to the market and trade in my old games and would be exited on the bus home, but now i order a few games online and don't even install them for a few weeks.

the amount of views on this topic is staggering, and only 9 people have replied (10 if you count me) which I find baffeling. Im presuming everyone feels the same way, EVERYONE!

I'd agree to some extent. Also, the harder you work to please a person - the less they become interested in you...

try not working to please people. im sick of doing that now. if someone wants to be with me, then they've got to be please with ME, not what i can pretend to be for the first few months of a relationship! :p

and yeah, im like that with some things.
things i havent been like that with:

Powerbook
12 string acoustic
double bed
mp3 player
Famicom Micro
Camera

Omg, you are like, me.

Nice to meet me.

No not really, I buy things I like and then I like to appreciate what I have. People get bored of their possesions once they have them because its the desire to have such a thing is the attraction not actually having them, so when they have them, they move onto the next thing they desire. Appreciate what you have then you will be more happier IMO.

All the time, it drives my wife to despair. I generally buy stuff then sell it a month or two later when the novelty wears off.

I remember when I was little and was so happy when I got a new game for my Commodore64 and I used to play each game for months, now when I played a game a couple of times I get bored and start another one.
