Recently my new high end gaming machine died on me. Bought it back in april from here and cost a fair bit. I make a living from using my pc so its very important for me. Good thing I had a good trusty back up pc ready to go.

Just wondering if anyone else keeps a back up pc spare incase your main one dies? If so, what spec is it?

I've had my spare pc since 99. Still works like a charm. Only good for simple operations, like word, internet ect.

EDIT: Posted in wrong forum. Meant to post in general forum. Sorry.

I don't have a backup PC, but I do have a backup hard drive, which has come in very handy recently since my new hard drive died :( However I do plan on keeping my current machine around when I get a new machine in Jan/Feb. Standard Socket A machine that I built about 5 years ago.

I have a backup PC but its currently in pieces due to swapping hardware in and out for testing etc. I really should put it back together as it’s not that old.

I have 3 PCs, one is my main rig, and the other two are in the workshop. My Mrs would kill me if I were to play games in their so I've got old graphics cards in them but I may play some older games on the sneak #whack#

I have two machines but one isn't intentionally a backup, it's a HTPC, though it could be used as a gaming machine with some very slight upgrades to its graphics and RAM.

I have 4 machines, but my backup (films, photo's mp3's etc) are stored on a 180gb HD in my #1 machine. Windows resides on a separate drive that gets re-installed more often than I'd like, but the other data is safe.

I've backed up my films etc onto DVD's (in data format) so if the worst did happen, all isn't lost. :)

Tbh, not really PC games related mate.

Have main pc, media pc, server pc and a laptop. Have only once been in a situation where my pc died and had no backup - never again.

I use Raid 5 so im not to worried, my family computer is set up as raid 0 because its slow thought id give it a bit of a boost but all the stuff i want keeping goes on my raid 5. I dont have time to back up and cant be bothered, unless i was running my server.

got a dell dimension 4100 in a cupboard, totally complete, pc, crt, keyb/mouse speakers/subwoofer. Rock solid little machine. Originally had windows ME on it.../shudder..

Threw together a machine last month outa old bits from my main rig, it sits in the kitchen and is used for utorrent and a bot.
Just used RDC for the first time last night lol.
Machine spec: Vista ultimate, e6600, 2gig giel ddr2 800mhz , WD 250GB Caviar.

I would feel lost without multiple pc`s (i have 3 and a notebook). I kind of lose the plot though... i have to make them all the same spec near enough, and it cost loads to do this.

That's your data safe, now what do you use if your motherboard or graphics card goes? :p

Got a spare one upstairs I use for making music (well, always intend to anyway) and trying out stuff related to work. It could just about cope with Orange Box but it would struggle with any of the new crop of games.

My main:

E6850 @ 3.8Ghz
IP35 Pro
250GB Seagate
80GB Maxtor
2GB PC6400 OCZ Plat.
8800GTX
Xfi

Secondary (also known as the other half's pc):
E6850
IP35 Pro
250GB Seagate
2GB PC6400 OCZ Plat.
320MB 8800GTS

I've got a laptop that gets kept away from overclocking any any software that might cause issues.
Occasionally I'l have a full second rig too, got all the parts for a 1GHz machine that could cope wit browsing the web fine, ust not got windows on it, got no need for it :)
