Definitely haggle, I got a good lot of discounts on furniture and electrical stuff when I moved house.

Always haggle, even if there is a sale on. A few examples of mine:

Bed from Bensons, on their amazing half price one day only special deal, still managed to get another £100 knocked off.

Purchased a table and chairs in a stores Christmas Sale, again managed a further £200 off.

Needed a sideboard, found one in the stores clearance at £400, offered £250 cash and did the deal.

Only today have I been to a Jewellers for an Eternity ring for the wife, was original value was £1200, in the sale for £675, walked away with a deal at £565.

If you don't ask you don't get!

Just to add, but can't help myself even if it is mates selling things.

Recently bought a new bike which my mate bought last year for £400 and literally never rode it. He was reluctantly selling at £200, I offered £150 and settled on £175.

Big chain stores I'll ask, the local indie very rarely but I tend to find once on their good side they'll throw small discounts or items in foc.

My wife's grandma once asked the till cashier if there was a discount for paying with cash on a TV at Asda hahaha

Yes all the time , especially for big ticket purchases such as a car.

If the bulk of that price was based on diamonds, then you didn't really 'save' as much as 'threw away slightly less money'.

DeBeers basically controlling the 'value' of diamonds means the true worth of that ring is probably well below £200, but ladies love them sparkles

Absolutely aware of this, yes it's diamonds but softens the blow when you get quite a good deal. May just have to lose the ring and claim on insurance in a few months
