Do you know where your recovery key is?

Prompted by an article on Macrumors, I realised I had no idea where I had put my recovery key for my Apple ID. So if I got locked out somehow, I'd lose all my apps and songs as Apple can't unlock it, it seems.

So take a moment now and make sure you have your key. If you don't, you can create a new one at http://appleid.apple.com

Saw that article this morning, I don't know why this is posted as "news", as that's the point of the system. All of the services I've used clearly warn you during 2FA setup.

Google gives you ten backup keys, not just the one.

This is why apps like 1Password or services like iCloud Keychain are becoming more and more vital.

Is that not potentially risky? ie anyone who gets access to your Dropbox also gains access to your iCloud account?

Edit: Actually, looks like I was missing some of the point of two-step authentication... you need two of
- Password
- Trusted device
- Recovery Key

But my point stands to an extent: someone grabs your phone in the street while it's unlocked and legs it, they open your Dropbox or whatever and have your Key: voila, your iCloud account is their iCloud account.

Valid point, however they are backed up using 1Password to Dropbox, if I were to lose my Moto G they could open the Dropbox app, but the 1Password file is encrypted by my master password :)

I think I've got it setup as secure as possible, although I often think it's overkill.
