my other half is getting into reading,

I was thinking about getting her a kindle (kindle touch)...

has anyone got one, is it great?

has anyone brought one for their other half - did they use it?

I have the keyboard one with 3G and love it. I find it a *lot* easier to read at night (I have the case with integrated kindle-powered light) and have yet to find something I want to read that's not on it. Only one missing was the Harry Potter books but we have those too now.

Got my mum the smaller one for Christmas, she uses hers more than I do mine.

my gf raves about it all the time, she thinks its the best thing sinced sliced bread

and she doesnt even like bread

I have the keyboard one, love it. Lent it to my girlfriend and she was hooked so I got her the new style one for her birthday.

Not overly keen on the touch, much prefer the keyboard version.

Mainly as it makes the browser more useable, and you can use calibre kindle collections plugin with the keyboard. Also, the kindle case with light is excellent.

Love my kindle wifi keyboard version...mind you ive read all the books on it so need to get round to buying some more books. I'll probably re-read some of the e-books i have on my kindle at some point.

If its just for reading I would say get the normal one rather than the touch one, as the thing you will do the most is change pages and this is much easier/better with the little buttons than having to swipe the screen.

I like my keyboard one but would get the non-keyboard one if buying now after seeing them side by side.

I love my Kindle :) just got the app on my iPad 3 too, it's nice that everything syncs and reading on that isn't quite as nice as the kindle.

Superb, I was always a doubter for ebooks until some friends bought me one for my birthday. Since then I can confidently say I've used it every day, it's just perfect for reading.

I have the keyboard version, I find the keyboard is essential for searching the amazon store.

My only problem with it is the battery life isn't great, if you have the wireless internet turned on you can drain the battery in 1 day.

So typically you would be downloading newspapers, blogs etc every day which really eats the battery.

I also have poor eyesight, I find it hard to focus on book pages in the daytime but with the kindle I can focus with no problems all day.

Have a look at the nook instead. Most local libraries are now doing ebooks. But the kindle does not support it. I expect it will at some point. But if your interested in getting free library books super easily. Then you need to look else where. I can see the digital age being a rebirth of the library.

I have an original 3g version from when it first came out. The newspaper subscriptions for between £8-10 are fantastic. Granted at first there were very few pictures in the kindle editions but this has changed over time. Being able to get a broadsheet into a more manageable format is great and saves so much on daily paper costs.

Wife, daughter and mum in law all have the keyboard kindle and they have always got their noses in some book or other. Saves a fortune too as there are so many free books available. Using Calibre to manage allows conversion from any basic ebook format to kindle mobi, so you don't have to use only Amazon.

I love mine, saves my books getting tatty when out of the house.

I read proper books in the house though. You can't beat them :)
