so ive got myself a 1060 6gb and thinking of my next purchase in the form of a nice gaming monitor, i know theres the new monitors that offer both features as i made a topic about it, but what i didnt ask was if the 10 series can now support freesync does that mean you can get away with just a freesync monitor or does it only work with the combo types?

You can get away with a good Freesync 2 monitor, but what you wont find is a long list of officially support Freesync monitors from nVidia. As far as they're concerned, a G-Sync monitor is the gold standard, and anything else 'might' work. I'd recommend finding a Freesync montior that suits your needs, then checking on forums like this one to see if anyone has tested it with nVidia drivers on a 10-series card.
