Do you need a quad core cpu ?

These days it would be foolish to build a system & not include a Quad core CPU.

I'd go with no less than a quad core now, no point going just dual. even if the cores are somewhat redundant in 50% of what you do... it'll not always be the case.

In every system I've built for customers I've always fitted a Quad Core processor as standard if they are into gaming.

I don't need one personally, but I'd have to be significantly more patient if I didn't have one. I had the misfortune of spending a day doing modelling work using a 2ghz core2duo, and it doesn't even come close to a 4ghz quad core.

Not an issue anymore because I have a quad core but an E8600 would have been first choice if it hadn't been £190 to get one new last year (hell it still is) with the new i5 at £150...

I know gaming can do just fine on two cores. Just happened that a quad was cheaper to buy :/

Don't need a quad but some games do run better. It's just not worth the money you would save in going for a a dual-core. There's not much in it. It's a bit like buying a 250gb HDD for £30 instead of a 500gb for £40:)

If it was as simple as a core2duo cost £100 and a core2quad cost £250 then it would be a valid argument
