people talk about streaming a lot, am i right in saying that my ps3 picks up my Microsoft account from my pc meaning i can get videos/pictures if i have a selected folder like before i used to get movies/music on my consoles via windows media player?

i only ask because people go out their way to spend x amount of money on stuff for streaming when you could technically just use a console?

its got me thinking of getting something setup for downstairs and moments ago just picked up a half 4 edition 360 for £50  for the missus who already has a special edition 360 so could use one of them i suppose that is unless i need something particular? if the tv had usb i could just plug in my esclosure hard drive, sadly too old a model for that.

For streaming media to your tv you can use programs like ps3 media server which is free and plex which has a paid and free version. I used ps3 media server for years but then bought a steam link for £40 and use that for steaming now as I can my games on it too

I just use a WDLIVE box to stream from pc, it is superb and easy to use. It also has Netflix and stuff on it and you can add more and it runs at 1080p unlike most of the crap Android 720p units.

thanks for replies.

i always wanted to get my hands on a Pi, more for arcade creating, but never bothered, what do the suggested items offer over using a 360/ps3? i havent used windows media player for awhile so i dont know how reliable it is anymore.
