Do you need to secure erase a phone before sending back/selling on?

My brother got a Xiaomi Redmi Note 10 Pro last week but unfortunately the screen has a small fault. He's going to send it back but obviously it now has sensitive info on the device.

What's the secure way to wipe a phone these days so no clever clogs can extract data? Is the back up and reset option good enough or should something else be done?

That reminds me of when I bought a HTC desire years ago which hadn't been factory reset. The chap had pictures of both sides of his credit card!
