Do you overlockers of C2D, C2Q and i7 use SpeedStep

as above. i get the feeling using speedstep gives errors in prime because it adjusts the vcore.

with everest i can see cpu uses 25w when idle (with and without speedstep) but temps r few degree higher at idle.

yes - my 920 idles at 2.4GHz @ 1.0v

and goes up to 4.2GHz @ 1.28v

speedstep is useful and makes very little impact on system performance

i benchmark with it off however - just because i always have
 
yeah, waste of power without it on imo, its a brilliant feature that is slated just because some inexperienced users are unaware that it is meant to do what it does, and some just like seeing big numbers on their screen constantly
 
When SpeedStep was initially implemented, it caused errors because it wasn't designed to work with overclocked chips with boosted voltages. These days, enthusiast motherboards don't have this problem and it should be fine to use it on an overclocked chip. I do :)
 
I didnt to start with but iv started to just cus of the heat mainly. Maybe really really high Ocing it may start to have effects with the voltage jumping up and down but nothing that iv noticed.
 
i remember on 939 (cool & quiet) when it used to drop the multiplier of an OC'd machine the FSB increased few mhz. On my opteron 175@3ghz i had to turn it off. but with speedstep now the only thing i noticed on cpuz and everest is vcore is incased on oc machine when its idling. i'm just doing prime on my rig to double check its stable , setting volts manually for NB/ram/CPU
 
Depends on how much you’ve overclocked to be honest. For example I'm at 3.4GHz @ 1.18v and I haven’t noticed any difference in temperature with speedstep on.
On the other hand if you have a 4.*GHz @ 1.3-1.5v overclock then I guess it could be useful enough.
