Do you pick up hitchhikers?

Only this once in sector Z Z 9 Plural Z Alpha, but that was very improbable.

But no. As people have said, I'd not invite a total stranger into my house, so I wouldn't into my car either.

I wouldn't. Even if they look reasonable and trustworthy, all it takes is them to get the upperhand when you arent expecting it and you've just lost your car/anything in it.

Bit paranoid, but why risk it?

Gave a hitchhiker a lift one real wet windy morning in the early hours. Regretted it instantly, the guy looked like a scoobydoo villain unmasked, did not say a word other than "end of road" (3 miles) and he farted in my car :(.

I was not happy with my hitch hiking help experience as a result.

I picked up a couple of hitchhikers going from Leeds to somewhere in Croatia once. I stopped for them and they piled in (two of them) and it turned out that I knew the guy anyway, so all was well. I took them much further south, but I'm not sure they reached Dover that day.

I would if I could, I have hitch hiked one.

My 748 broke down on the motorway, a fellow biker on a HUGE touring bike asked if everything was ok. I told him I ran out of petrol (the light never worked and it was the first proper full ride I did). He asked if I was able to buy a can of petrol. Yes I was, jumped on the back of his bike. He rode me 3 miles to petrol station, I bought the can, rode me back. Bike was still there thank god. Filled the bike up and tried to offer him payment. Wouldn't accept a single thing, no petrol, no money. Nothing.

Legend of a guy, waiting until my bike started up, and off he went wishing me luck! Legend, absolute legend lol. Saved me a fair chunk of money in breakdown recovery!

Anyway, I did however stop coming off the M25 onto the M4 as a indian family's car had broken down causing a ton of traffic. Not a single person helped this poor woman with 4 kids to push her car. I stopped, climbed off the bike, in full leathers pushed her car to safety and called the services for her. She was in tears bless her. Traffic died down in the 10 mins I was with her helping to calm her kids down. Job done, on my way I went.

Oh! Also remember stopping by on a desolate road for a guy whose bike had broken down. Asked if everything was ok, he said the recovery was 2 hours late lol. I offered him a smoke, went to the garage, got him a drink and a sandwich, returned, we had a chat and a laugh for 30 mins until the recovery truck arrived. Off I went.

But yes, I would offer a hitchiker a lift. Why are people so scared? Surely you just stick to main roads/motorways?

Bikers are a bit of a special group though, a bit like a club.

Don't they tend to stop and help out another biker?

Pretty much, ran out of petrol along the A33 in reading during rush hour, was only a couple of miles from home and had like a dozen bikers ask if I was alright. Thankfully my mate was already on the way with petrol.

I really am bad at filling up!

But yea, I agree, bikers often help each other out, even if it's simply slowing down to ask if everything is ok.

I always imagine the worst when I see hitchhickers - ie it's a trap to get you robbed / carjacked. But I also think what happens if it's not and they are geniunely nice people. You stop and pick them up, drop them at the next town then 2 days later you get a loud knock on your door. The hitch hiker has turned up dead, CCTV shows them getting into your car and you were the last person the police can prove had contact with them.

That's a whole world of pain I'd rather not go through.

Probably not advisable to kill them after you've given them a lift tbh, usually creates all sorts of problems.

Picked up loads. Group of polish(?) girls, but sadly I didn't get any hot hot hostel action out of them.
I picked up some students that were allegedly doing a sponsored hitch hike, but I was bored. A couple of random people too.

My anal integrity has not been compromised.

Picked up a couple in my old job of driving up and down the country every day. One guy who'd apparently just come back to the UK after spending 8 years hitching/travelling around the world. Told me it took him 3 days to hitchhike from Greece to France, and then a week to get from Dover to Bristol, confirming that on the continent they're far more likely to pick you up! Told me a few cool stories about his travels, which may or may not have been true, but regardless kept me entertained for an hour, so I gave him a fiver for a sandwich and a coffee when I dropped him off :)

Second was a bunch of girls who were doing a charity hitchhike from Leeds Uni to somewhere in Wales and I passed them just as it had started absolutely hammering it down with rain!
