Do you "Race" with a wheel

All the wheels are very close, i have a G25...its down to the driver really...Ms Lopez is very nice though although her voice is mildly annoying.

I've got a Logitech Drive FX for 360/PC, got it on the cheap cause it was an american version but came with a plug adaptor so no real difference. Love using it for GRID. Racing becomes so much more smoother over a 360 pad and you can tell that online. On getaway (especially in the euro touring lacetti's) you can hold the revs and usually past a couple at the start. You can also hold so much more speed in the corners, love using it.

I've tried with a Logitech wheel for the PC and the wireless wheel for the Xbox 360 on Forza 3. Neither worked out well.

Quickly running out of talent was one problem :o, but they also took up way too much space. The final straw was when I realised that in Forza 3 I was just so much faster with a pad.

When I 1st started racing I was using the PS2 pad with and adapter for the PC. A few of my mates did this , then bought a wheel and their laptimes dropped a lot over the next few days. That was the point I bit the bullet and bought a Logitech Formula Force EX racing wheel like them. Its nowhere near the top of the range wheel but it has the basics, force feedback, centre spring etc.
If you are interested in lowering your laptimes etc then get a wheel, its much more fun and smoother.

Bit of a thread revival but I figured I'd rather add to an existing thread rather than create a new on on the same subject. Basically I'm thinking of getting a Driving Force GT and a Wheelstand Pro in preparation for GT5 in November, and I'm wondering what sort of chairs are suitable (i.e. the most comfortable) for this kind of thing.

I've seen people talking about office chairs which I don't mind getting but I already have this chair in my room and I was wondering if anyone else had used a similar sort of racing wheel combination with it?

Thanks in advance.

Nope.
I've got a wheel but it doesn't seem to work properly under Windows 7, the throttle is 'inverted' lol :) i.e. unpressed it is full throttle and I have to put my foot down to reduce the amount of throttle.

To be honest I found most (arcadey) games more difficult with the wheel anyway as it makes it slower to change direction. Setting it up is a bit of a faff (moving keyboard out the way, fixing to the desk etc), to be honest it's one of my poorer peripheral purchases.

I have got the Microsoft Sidewinder wheel and pedals, not the latest and greatest but a snip at just under 9 quid from that well known internet auction site.

I once bought these years ago but gave em to my nephew and they worked well enough.

I can't imagine racing without the weel. it makes games harder to master, but when you pass it, it just pure pleasure to drive. I think it's a bit harder with the wheel but it's worth it. Only game that i've found is harder than to play with pad is Grid drift discipline, it's just so hard to master it. I spend quite a few hours playing with the pad, i'm happy with what i achieved. But now i can't be asked to spend more hours trying to master with the wheel.
Racing games ment to be played with the wheel! :)

I've never raced with a wheel in anything other than the arcade driving games, which I'm "okay" at.

I have considered getting one for the pc, but I don't think I'd be very good with it compared with controller...

Tip for g25 and 27 users i got a Bodnar box for my pedals and i gained much better lap times and consistency with it in Iracing.

Last week ive bought new Clubsport pedals with load cell brake and ive lost 1 second a lap with them.

I know they are new but if my speed doesn't come back soon ill be replacing them after xmas for something else.

But by far the best upgrade i made was the bodnar box which gives much greater resolution to the pedals so if you drive serious Sim worth checking out.
