I have'nt lapped my cpu although the waterblock is lapped. I really can't be bothered to take the cpu out again, in any case it does'nt really need it. Bear in mind if you do lap it then you void your warranty.

depends on the CPU lapping my CPU helped to even out the core temps, for high overclocks having a couple of cores running 10c higher can be a real pain

that hs is known for being as flat as the alps

if you want best results then lap both the hs and chip

that is provided that you don't get a rare flat one

Depends on the quality of the 120 base, im just done lapping my base (and cpu ihs) and will install later, however i dont see it making much diference.

2 120 heatsinks ive had now and both had crapy bases, according to thermalright its intentional...if so and they can get a flat base (if they choose) then why dont they make another sku and have a totally flat base and label it as such, for lapped ihs or whatever.

I think Im safe, he wont even get a Bios Screen after setting that 4.5GHZ and Menu Choice of SAVE CHANGES & EXIT, thats last he will see anything but a Black Screen before resetting Bios. ;)

Yip some peeps on XS get 4GHZ+ on high end Mobos with high End Air Cooling or WC.

Think of the 9x Max Multi on that CPU and what kind of FSB you would need to get 4.5GHZ, not many Mobos can do that FSB for Quads esp. ;)
