Do you service your boiler?

Yeah im guilty of this, i always forget to get it done in the summer.. it's almost 7 years now since it was fitted so i really should get someone this coming year.

Used to move about providers for cover and take the one with free service. Haven't done that in a few years so had it serviced yesterday (last was in 2019). All good and boiler coming up for 10 years old now.

it just seems like a con to keep the boilers warranty. I’ve saved nearly £1000 by not servicing my boiler. If it breaks down I can get it repaired or buy a new one.

yeah but not religiously every year - I don't like feeling pressured into doing something that doesn't feel necessary - told a mate about it and he got triggered like I mentioned brexit or something.

We have ours serviced every year, always have done. Just seems sensible, like having your car serviced.

What about when it leaks CO and kills you in your sleep?

Extreme but a possibility, it's not just about does it work or not.

Have had it done every year since install 8 years ago, helps that my mates dad does it for me for free as I sort his laptop out everytime he screws it up so has never cost me anything.

But this is like an mot. It's only valid on the day.
I get what you mean but a Co detector is much much better for this.

Nope although I do keep meaning to get it done, it was last done around 6 years ago.
Much like car servicing to me its the minimum possible time recommended that they think they can get away with.

For rentals sure an annual inspection probably makes sense since many will only fix something thats broken.

For normal home use, extended warranty excluded, I cannot see any feasible way even with current gas prices that the minor efficiency benefit of being cleaned will ever repay the fee.

I have a CO detector sitting in the cupboard my boiler is in, I check every so often that its working and batteries are fine. Its darn loud even in the cupboard.

What do they do in a boiler service exactly? In a car there's oil, a few filters, spark plugs etc that are consumable and need changing but which bits actually get changed in a boiler service out of interest?

Did it when I had issues with our boiler and the guy would be here anyway, but other than that, nah. It's a false economy.

Yes, religiously. A local guy specialises in "just servicing" and charges about £49. He signs the book which keeps the warranty going.

From my experience they clean it out, ie some dust/soot. One did use some liquid once I think to basically help clean up the burner

I think its mainly really for rentals (safety) and warranty ie manufacturers imposing expensive servicing as part of package to support their approved installers having to pay them fees.

Ive never had anything changed as part of a boiler service (we rented for around 10 years and it was done annually and never had anything changed)

Every year for £60 from the original installer. He cleans the filter out, checks the gas outflow and usually bleeds the radiators. Not really worth not having it done for that price.

I believe it’s also a condition of buildings insurance although im not sure they would enforce it even if the house burnt down.
