This is a topic ive seen on Yahoo! and I was wondering what peoples thoughts were on here on the subject... Do you think that Childcare is too expensive?

I ask this as being a childcare professional myself I wondered what parents and others thought on this subject, I work for a private day nursery chain as a Nursery Nurse in a pre school room a job I find everyday challenging and difficult... our nurseries charge a Weekly fee (grants being available)

for a 0-2 year old its £139.50 for a full day, with Milk and Buscuits, a lunch meal meeting any diatary requirements neccacary, along with a pudding and a tea with sandwitch and a portion of fruit...

A child 2-3 its £135.00 and 3-5 its £129.50

Broken down that works out as £30 per day

Do you think these are good prices? or too expensive, I use my nursery as example as I hae worked in a few now, and they are the best in the county... we have 3 nurserys around Staffordshire... and the rest of the staff and myself are given so much support with everything, extra training etc... but what about the nursery you send your child to? are they more pricy? or less expensive?

Oppinions?

Is childcare tax deductible in the UK? I know in the US we can get up to 60% of the expenses back at the end of the year.

edit: that's not quite right. But I believe the full amount is taken from your gross income, which can lower your tax bracket significantly.

My youngest James (2 yrs old) is currently going to a nursery because my wife is disabled so cant look after him very well. It is expensive when you get the bill at the end of the month. But when you consider that for £36 per day, 8am to 6pm, including breakfast, lunch and tea, superb facitilies, lots of well trained staff in a secure environment it is actually very cheap.

You cant really put a price on your childs wellfare, you need to know he is going to be looked after to the same standard if not better than he would get at home.

Fog

PS: still, cant wait until he is 3 and gets his free place :D

hehe, there are a lot of really good nurseries around! most providing the best in childcare... Personally I love working for my nursery as I get the opportunities to work with babies up to pre schoolers and its great :)
