The reason im asking as i was thinking the other day.

my atari,megadrive,PS1,PS2 never had any problem yet the PS3,Xbox 360 have a fair few problems ive been through 4 PS3s!

then i was thinking of the games, the games seem to have more bugs thabn they did in the past, that could be down to more features, but it could also be down to them rushing the game out because they know they can update it with a patch as 99.9% people have it connected to the internet in some way. you could say the same about the actual OS to.

What are your views on this?:D

I just think things are much more complex now that there are bound to be more problems. The Xbox 360 and it's overheating issues for example. Games have gotten much more complex this generation as well, and although you may not have had a problem with earlier consoles this isn't true for everyone. I got through 3 PS2's before I had one that actually worked without issue! :o

I do have to say though that my PS1 was very, very robust. My parents were adamant I wasn't getting a PS2 until my PS1 broke. As an 11 year old I tried everything, hitting it, dropping it, putting my finger on the laser and wiggling it about, then one day I decided to pour a cup of tea inside, it worked :D lol

Cue a trip to Comet with my grandparents for a spanking new PS2, shame it was one of the three that knackered. :(

It's games in general that are having to be more rushed due to the publishers.

Also there were loads of bugs in older games too, just we either didn't notice so much (possibly because of being younger) or just didn't care enough to moan about them.

Software wise, the problem is made worse by the fact that the new systems allow online patching, so you can use the consumer for the main QA phase :)

I think people are going a bit overboard here. :p

I can't remember buying a game in the last... ever that was ruined by a game breaking bug or bugs, the only thing that comes close in that regards in my opinion is Far Cry 2, which isn't so much buggy it's just bad.

VtM : Bloodlines was pretty much farked on release by crippling bugs (albeit a PC game...).

Awesome that fans fixed it all up with unofficial patches, but really - it shouldn't come down to that.

Hmm, Alan Wake wasn't really rushed was it?

Andi.

Just because I insinuated a lot of games are rushed these days doesn't mean I directly called Alan Wake out.

I thoroughly enjoyed it, that said Alan Wake had a few bugs but I only experienced one, a door that was supposed to be unlocked wasn't, I didn't know this so after 10 minutes of running around trying to find out where I was going wrong I got bored and simply reloaded the game, the same door that refused to open all of a sudden worked.

This!

I don't remember encountering that many bugs in games last gen overall, have definitely experienced more this gen on consoles.

Every device develops fault.

I've owned a 60gb PS3, a 250gb slim PS3 (still do) and an Xbox 360 Elite (still do) none have had any problems.

My view is you are unlucky. I had my ps3 from launch day and never had a problem :)
