It's on my old machine (At least 3 years old). I had been planning to test the new IC-Perhelion on it.
So ran some tests without changing anything.
Then turned off, and left it an hour- (was getitng dinner). Came back, unplugged everything. Grounded myself on the psu. Unclipped the stock amd heatsink.
Then when I lifted, it seemed a bit jammed, so tugged a little harder, and the cpu came off with the cooler.
I twisted the cpu with the cooler and it came off find. Then I used a cotton cloth and some of my girlfriends make up remover to remove the dried in paste, which had been there when the system was first built. After checking everything and it looking grand. Reseated the cpu. small peasized blop of paste.
Then turned it on. The computer powered up, all the LED's and fans are whirring. But the monitor is showing "No display". The GPU was always a little tempermental. So plugged it into the onboard instead. Rebooted. Still no display.
Reset the CMOS. Reseated the CPU again, checking for any contaminants etc. Then resat my GPU.
Reset the CMOS again. and removed 2x1GB RAM sticks and reset CMOS again. Still no display.
So- you guys think the CPU is dead?
It's a AMD Athalon 64 x2 4400+.
I can't recall the mobo's name, and i don't see it printed on it anywhere.
