Do you use a media library?

Can't you just navigate to the folder itself and alter the tags with MP3tag or something?

Granted, you'd have to update the Mediamonkey database after.
I could. But this only happens when I forget. :p And I prefer to limit the programs I use to edit MP3s to a bare minimum.

I don't use tags at all, Winamp (my player does though) which means if something's not tagged or tagged inadequately then I have to edit the file itself. I too use Windows Explorer, it's painstaking as I insist on labelling the files themselves, but worth it in my eyes.

Thanks for the answers! Mattus, I might have a stab at Songbird, as I'm a Mozilla/Netscape kid at heart. As a few of you have mentioned ID3 tagging, just to let you know that I use Mp3tag (freebie) for mass tagging.

I'm not sure you can in MediaMonkey, it insists on sorting it by Album/Album Artist :/

Only flaw I can find in it. Otherwise it's excellent :). Better than Songbird IMO.
On the Library tree on the left look for the and "Album" line and expand that to see all your albums in album mode. :)

The strange thing is, I have been using that mode and it's still putting them into album/album artist 'folders'. Not sure why, but it refuses to list just by album name.

It is partly down to those particular VA albums having the wrong album artist (i.e. not Various Artists), but I would have thought the album filter on the left would pretty much ignore album artists.

I'll keep looking as I really do like this program. Hopefully I find some way to sort this, or I might just go through those albums and correct the tags.

That is weird. Sounds like the tags are totally messed up. :(

I do like Media Monkey a lot. I was a disciple of Winamp until a fateful evening's MSN conversation with LeperousDust got me to try out Media Monkey. Haven't looked back since. :D

Btw I've sent you a message to your MSN email address. :)

I've just been through the albums that are giving this problem and I noticed they haven't been tagged with Picard at all! I guess they weren't found in the database, or I skipped them for whatever reason. Hopefully that explains the issue, if not I'll just go through and change the album artist to VA on them.
