Was wondering if there are many here who do it? And if so is there anything you would recommend? Just been googling a bit and saw mint, microsoft money etc but I've no idea what the best is.

As i work abroad I basically get expenses and I've found I'm definitely throwing money about too easily as 1) It somehow just seems to have less value in a foreign currency and 2) I assume as im getting expenses I'm saving a ton....which is most likely not the case.

Previously I knew where every penny of my money was going but due to the different avenues of income and different payment means being used, I am losing track a bit and would rather regain my tight-fisted, scrooge-like ways

Also do you of these allow you to connect paypal and stuff (track funds you have sitting in your paypal account)

I need to start keeping track of mine too. This year has been a nightmare for me in terms of keeping track of money. I might have a look at MS Money. Years ago my dad used to use Quicken, which was pretty decent.

Not much point when you only get any sort of income on birthdays and xmas, but if i did i'd probably use Gnumeric or Calc. Yes, there's probably easier programs for it. But easy!=simple. What's the point in using a whole new piece of software to do something i could do with another piece of software which i'm already familiar with, just as well?

What the heck? Calc?

How does Calc even begin to provide useful financial management functionality? It's a calculator!

Do you not just use your internet banking to keep track of your money?

You can't instantly run off expenditure reports or run simulations to see what effect certain events would have on cashflow etc just using online banking though.

Money et all allow you to instantly see exactly what you spent on ABC over the last XYZ months at the touch of a button, for example. It also allows you to plan future cashflow based on past expenditure etc etc and get an estimated position at any point in the future. It's really powerful and really excellent.

MS Money isn't made anymore is it? There's money plus sunset but that doesn't have all the functionality of the old Money (which AFAIU won't work on W8 when it's released).

For Mac, there's Debtinator, but that's more a tool for budgeting to reduce / pay off debts.

Wow - I'm amazed people spend time doing that sort of thing!
