Hi all.

I've been looking into creating a 'low power mode' profile to cut back on energy/heat when im not using my rig to its maximum potential.

Do most of you do this already?

What is the best application to use to set the graphics card to a low power mode?

Is it best to have a profile in bios too?

Thanks,

Buy a laptop!

It will work out cheaper in the long run with the way energy prices are going. I only turn my PC on for gaming or similarly intensive tasks, all other times I have my Macbook Pro taking about 45-50W from the wall.

What GPU?

For nVidia, RivaTuner works really well. If you search around the net, you can configure it to kick in at full throttle when it detects 3D hardware acceleration (i.e. launching a game), otherwise it runs at low clocks etc.

For ATI there is *supposed* to be PowerPlay, but ofc it's still broken on the 4800 series
