Do you use the xbox 360 controller more these days?

Hi Guys,

Just wanted to ask this as I am curious if I am the only one.

I use to be a big PC gamer years ago, but then I was console only for many years. Well a few months back I bought all the components to build a good gaming PC from OcUK, as I wanted to play FPS games with a mouse and keyboard, as you can not beat the accuracy of a mouse of course.

Well recently I have been using the xbox 360 pad on my PC far more than I expected... to the point that I am even using it on FPS games now (single player mind, not multi). Anyone else use the xbox controller on their PC more often these days? Or am I the only one?

It seems to me that the positives of the superior button layout of a pad for games over the keyboard outweighs the positives of the mouse accuracy for me.

Just curious.

I find it great for driving games, keyboard is just useless for that sort of thing. Console ports feel a lot easier to play with a 360 controller too.

I got my controller, because I sometimes found many different kinds of games, to feel clunky with just keyboard and mouse, but after I got my controller, I learnt that it was more the fault of the game just having dreadful interfaces.. Thus my controller has been relegated pretty much to games where analogue controls are important, basically driving games.

I bought one because I was struggling with Darksiders. It helped a little with some of the combination presses, but despite recently taking a crash course in controller-ology thanks to falling in love with Last of Us, I still absolutely despise controllers.

How anyone uses these things for accurate shooting or steering I've no idea! It's worth the faff of getting my wheel out just so I can enjoy driving. Maybe something to extend the shaft would help (wouldn't it always!) then fine control would be easier. But I haven't experimented yet.

Interesting thread.

I've been trying to use it for more casual games, and racers, recently... But no, the keyboard is my 'superior' button layout... And mouse accuracy > all

I mainly play FPS, Moba and RTS at the moment so I'm not currently using my pad. I have used it a lot though, for racers, batman AC, walking dead and pro evo to name a few.

Dark Souls, Skyrim, Shift 2, Street Fighter and many more, but safe to say that if it isn't a strategy game like Civ 5 or a shooter then I'll play it on pad.

I use mine for everything, I game from the sofa on a bigscreen TV so I can't be doing with a keyboard and mouse.

Infact I played DOTA 2 for the first time recently and going back to having to use a keyboard and mouse was a bit strange at first.

I don't really do Multiplayer so it's not a hindrance in that respect.

I finally got a 360 controller about 2 months ago. It has mainly seen use with my Nexus for Vice City, along with limited use with the PC version (Flying helicopters).

In the other PC games I have been playing since getting it (Metro, Tomb Raider, KSP, War of the Roses) I have never felt the need to use it over K&M. Although if I did at some point get a Gaming HTPC then I suspect it would see more use.

K & M for most first person shooters and RTS games. Apart from that, 360 controller feels much more fluid with most games (mainly due to them being console ports). For example, Just Cause 2 is horrible with K & M, as is navigating menus in Skyrim (unless you use SkyUI).

Possibly the only games that can't be mapped to 360 controller are Arma 2 and 3 due to the sheer amount of controls available! ;)
