Do you video encode with your dual core cpu?

My softwares are CCe via Dvd Rebuilder, Dvd Pro and Nero 7 - Nero Recode (mpeg4 encoding) this I have found is a great indicator of cpu power if the video to be encoded source is an image on a fast hdd.

If you do have you tried any different softwares?

What kind of results are you getting?
Speed? (Is the software you are using making good use of the 2 cores)
Quality?(CCe codec used to encode mpeg2 instead of Nero for example)
Ease of use?
Any software you difinitely wouldn't use because of bad performance?

"How bright" I wasn't refering to the cpu ;) the software encoder will effect quality ;)

You might want to consider reowrding your original post then as I read it the same way bledd did.

Yes the topic is on cpu but I want your views on the software also;)

dvd rebuilder + cce 6.5gb file 4cce passes

3.2 prescott 2gb ozc 2.2.3.5 ram : 180 mins > 200min

3.2 athlon single core 2gb ozc 2.2.3.5 ram :180 mins > 200 min

conroe 6400 stock 2gb of cellshock : 180 mins

conroe 6400 @ 3.2 2gb of cellshock : 85 mins

raid hard drives only improves the 3rd stage

1 hard disc build time 15 mins : seagate 10 series
2 raid 0 about 10 mins : seagate 10 series

2 scsi 15k raid 0 rpm 5 mins

i reckon a quad core will do it in 61 minutes

Nice figures James32 something to chomp on :)

A question for you, take 2 x 6.5GB 720 x576 video sources but one will take much longer to encode than the other, both are encoded on the exact same soft/w hard/w why?

because your limited to 1 hard disc

you would need mabaye 4 raided 0 drives to work
with both files at same time + plenty of cache

its like trying to open 2 nero and burning 2 of the same,
one drive always slows down as there both coming from the c:\ the files

hard disc has always been the limiting factor
and dvd rebuilder is very hard to assign 1 processor to 1 file
because soon as it changes to a new avs file, the affinty always
gets lossed i tried it ages ago.

always better using the 2 cores on the 1 file
thats were batches come in.

i usually do a batch of 3 then reboot pc as times will always increase
