Interested in seeing what kind of hours people do per week. Would be helpful if you also said what you did and what your contracted hours actually are and if you get paid for the overtime or is it expected as part of your job.

Just that I seem to be working more & more of recent with no mention of being paid for it  Looks like a trip to the bossman is due.

I know someone who works perhaps 2 hours overtime every day, but that is generally expected of him as he works IT in the city for traders.

It will likely pay off, very nice chap but usually very tired.

Mm, yeah i work it. Obviously it's a lot more common at a supermarket and what ever overtime i do, it's always recorded (Clocking in and clocking out system). This week i worked a 9 hour shift on checkouts on monday and on wednesday i worked a 10.5 hour shift. I work 12.25 hours for my contract. (Excluding breaks).

i work as a Tech op for CNBC and SciFi UK channels, my contracted hours are 48 a week but some weeks i only work 24, others i work 60, others 48. any OT on top of that we get paid for at 14.50 an hour. bearing in mind when we do overtime its an entire shift (8 or 12 hours), its never having to stay after hours.

I wouldn't work any overtime unless

1) I have said I would (i.e. agreed to finish a project which was taking a lot longer than I thought)

2) Co-workers will have to work harder without me. This doesn't include my boss.

I'm trying to get some in at the moment as I don't know how long it will be until I get a job I want. We are 'expected to work overtime' though it doesn't say anything other than that.

Though Primark are stingy compared to other companies, no time and a half or anything like that.

mine is optional but everyone does it, they are going to try to put us all on a salary in the future so we can't work it as there is so much of it (i'm not telling you the industry i work in lol).

Basic hours are 35,

i average about 45-60 hours a week total in the end, i don't mind the extra work because having the extra money gives me a much better lifestyle!

I'm contracted to 37.5 hours a week and that's exactly what I do these days.

I used to work an average of 55 - 60 hours a week with all the overtime I used to do but cba'd anymore :(

I thought 'Contracted' meant you have to work a certain amount of hours?

Opted to do 1 or 2 days a month before I got promoted. Hadn't done any since, however had something big come up and have been in both days this weekend. Double time + double time for travel, nice. :)

Do a fair few additional hours during the week - but I'm on flexi, so I just get more days off (22 last year!) :p

Im contracted to 35 hours a week @ £7.14 - This is shifted which is :-

Earlies - 0700 - 1500
Lates - 1500 - 2300
Nights - 2300 - 0700

But normally on top of this I do around 40 Hours on top, so I do 5 weeks work in 4 lol, pays Time and a half @ £10.68 on anything during the week that I have worked OVER the 35 hours.

Supposed to do 37.5 but I can do anything from that to 60 hours a week. Overtime rate is very good so mustn't grumble.

In a previous job I managed to do 110 hours in one week :( Everything went **** up, and I spent long days and nights getting everything sorted before the project deadline.

Contracted 35hrs, do 8hrs over time 3 out of 4 weeks. Would do more if I could but they limit us on the amount of over time where aloud. Although we've been campaigning to get more over time and we have sort of won, if they have contractors in they can't stop us from doing as many overtime shifts as we want. So in 2 weeks I'm doing 2 over time shifts. The rest of this rota doesn't leave much room for over time, hopefully next rota will allow me to do more.

But the overtime rate is rubbish.

normal pay weekdays.
time and a tenth weekends/nights.

Do you work in a supermarket by any chance?

I pretty much always work through lunch, then tend to finish when I'm at a good stopping point after my contracted hours. Like most IT jobs, every now and then there is a crisis, in which case I would stay there until everything is fixed. If I claim it back, it is normally only allowed as time in leui rather than paid overtime however.

i do 40 hours a week, and maybe 2 and a half hours a week overtime... sometimes more - sometimes less.

i'm a web designer and programmer. i'd do more if needed, if a server goes down or something catastrophically goes wrong then obviously the overtime will go up.
