DOA MOBO?

Building a custom rig for a friend and I configured a pretty fast setup for office / slight gaming

gigabyte ga-870a-ud3(AM3)
AMD phenom II X4 945 Deneb 3.0ghz
4gb A-DATA 1600mhz DDR3
160gb hdd (WD)
xfx radeon 5550
dvd burner
OCZ 500w psu (modxtstream)

Plug the 24pin connector in and it seems as if theres no power being given to the board. I intially thought it was the PSU until I took it home and used it on my own rig to boot perfectly fine..

However it seems as if theres no power being given to the board, no fans spinning, and no LED lights ( Im not sure if the gigabyte board even has LED lights)

could anyone help? ( I'm wondering if EVERYTHING needs to be plugged in and wired to get the board to show power - on my asus rampage III Extreme all I had to do was connect the 24pin power and the LED lights would come on indicating power - with this gigabyte would every component need to be plugged in and wired?)

guys i really need help here.

Got the new mobo in, but when I plug it in the PSU fan will start then stop spinning. None of the fans start, the hdd doesnt spin up, and the dvd drive doesnt work. I get a Red LED light though in the front of my case (after connecting EVERYTHING) which implies power is being given to the board, yet no boot.

what am I doing wrong?

faulty PSU?

Memory in the correct slots, did this on my build last year or try single module.

Do a CMOS reset, just in case - you may of already done.

8 pin for cpu power connected as well as the main 24 pin atx, is it possible to try another PSU.

All the stuff RJC said.
Also make sure the graphics card is fit correctly and the CPU cooler should also be properly making contact.
Check memory compatibility. And indeed the correct slot matters a lot, look it up in the manual, some motherboards want a stick in slot a, some in slot b...

Also does the motherboard have the latest version bios that is compatible with your CPU?

Hmm let me just say this guys, its not an error on my end for sure, I have made sure everything is plugged in correctly (one of the most mistakes all computer builders make) I tryed with one memory stick in and made sure it was on the boards compatibility list, sure enough it was.

So today I decided to jump start my PSU to see if it was the PSU...

I hooked up some fans, my DVD drive, and my hard drive. Sure enough all of it powers on. It has to be something with this Gigabyte motherboard, This would be the second DOA or it just doesn't like working with the OCZ ModXstream 500w... when I put the 20+4 connector in half way into the socket it will start up and stop, it seems to be something on gigabytes end. The PSU also powered my system with a GTX 480 and my Asus mobo.

I have heard bad things about gigabyte but thought I could take the chance on this.

The only other thing I can think of is a DOA CPU .. but the likeliness of this is slim to none right?. I also checked for any bent pins... nothing.

Would a simple mobo exchange to Asus or MSI fix the problem you guys think? I need something that does AM3 .. Phenom II X4 945 Deneb
