Hey everybody.

New to the forum and new to PC's in general and haven't really touched a computer since I was at school 15 years ago!

Anyway a friend of mine convinced me to take the plunge so here I am.

Anyway....

I've built a PC from scratch and I'm having a problems with what I think is the motherboard.

Specs:
Asus ROG Strix B250F Mbd,
Intel i5-7700k,
Team Vulcan 2x4gb 2400mhz ram,
Asus ROG Strix GTX 1050ti gpu,
Kingston 240gb SSD,
Corsair H60 CPU cooler,
Corsair VS550 Psu.
All in a corsair carbide series case.

Problem I'm having is I cannot get it to POST or get into bios.

I turn the Psu on with the rocker switch, all the fancy rgb lighting turns on, press the power button. Fans spin up, then they stop, then restart, then stop. Continuously in a loop. No signal to my monitor, nothing.

I left it for 20 minutes doing this and still nothing.

The one thing I did notice during this was the red CPU led was turning on whilst the fans were getting power. Then turned off again when the fans stopped.

I've had the CPU out checked its seated properly, checked all the pins. Everything looks fine. Even my friend checked it and he knows far more than I do.

I've had the mobo out of the case barebones, with literally just the CPU and one stick of ram installed and I still get the exact same problem.

Tried all manner of troubleshooting including removing the cmos battery and leaving the board for a couple of hours and its still not booting!

So would you guys say the MBD is dead?

Apologies for the long winded explanation.

Cheers,
Robb.

Which fan headers on the board are you using - if your not using the labeled CPU fan header there's a chance your board is shutting down as a safety measure...

Thanks for the reply bongohunter.

In all of my tests I was using the headers marked CPU fan, and AIO pump respectively.

Unfortunately, when I did the barebones test on a cardboard box I did have the cpu fan plugged in and aio pump plugged in also.
Still had the cpu led come on when the fan and pump kicked in before shutting off again.
And then again without the pump. Same story.

Sorry probably could have explained that a bit better in my opening post.

I'm assuming the bios version is printed onto the sticker that's stuck to the board?
If so the sticker ends with 0310.

I don't think it even is posting. The only thing that happens when I press the power button is a red led comes on (cpu led) along with the fans. Then it switches itself off again. Then repeats this process endlessly.

Anyway as an update to this. I bit the bullet and bought a new board.
And Asus Z270F board, I fitted the same components I fitted to the presumed dead B250 and the new one posted and booted straight away. Managed to get windows and several drivers installed last night.
