I bought 2x1gb matched pair of OCZ RAM from here a few months ago, and one of the sticks was DOA but I spent a few days talking to one of the guys from OCZ support and tried various things to get it working, which we never managed, anyways I got an RMA number for it. And asked if I could just send the 1 bad stick back (which they said I couldnt do)

Anyways, im in the middle of an AAT Accounting course which im doing from home via distance learning (Exam for first unit is tomorrow eek). So really cannot be without both sticks as I dont have any backup RAM to keep the PC going with while I wait on an RMA. So I never actually sent them back.

Been trying to play some games and decided I could really use the extra RAM now (Crysis / CoD 4) hehe

sorry for the long buildup but my question is this:

If i were to buy another 2x1gb sticks of RAM, once I got my original ones back, would 4x1gb sticks work in a P5B Deluxe? Does anyone have something like this working? (Might be a silly question but Im sure I read only a few days ago about people having trouble with 4x1gb in some motherboards.)

Failing that, do you think if I dealt directly with OCZ they would be willing to take only the dead stick back for replacement if I tell them I dont mind ending up without a matched pair?

4gb will run fine in a P5B Deluxe....however you will need a 64 bit operating system to recognize all the 4gb....otherwise you'll be limited to 3.25gb or so.

As for the RMA, if it's sold as a 2x1gb kit then usually the manufacturers require them to be returned in pairs.

It's a good idea to keep a single 512mb cheap stick of ddr2 around just in case you need to rma your ram.
