.doc vista annoyance

I've installed office 2003 to my pc, but i can't make word default for .doc's and its really peeing me off.
Does anyone know how i can manually change it via the registry since it won't work with 'Open With'.

2nd screenshot, hit the browse button & find the Winword.exe

Though, I'd be inclined to do a reinstall (& update too). See, on my Dad's laptop which runs Vista, Office 2003 installed fine & is the default program.

So when you click the "browse" option in "open with" you cant select the word exe?

Yeah after i've clicked browse and select winword it takes me back to that part on the second screenshot, i've uninstalled office and reinstalled it's still giving me the same annoyance

I'm not sure if this would works in Vista but in XP if you can go to the control panel > Folder options, then the 'File Type' tab.

Within here search for the file type you want to change the association with, click to highlight then click change to change the program it opens with (obviously change to word)

Sorry if this doesn't apply for Vista, i have little knowledge of Vista.
