When I install Windows 7, what's the score regarding all my xp docs and settings? If I make a backup file of them on another drive, will I be able to reintegrate them into the new system? Also what is the score re: compatability of all my drivers, programs (such as World of Warcraft) etc? will they al need replaced with new Windows 7 drivers?

There is the Documents and Settings Transfer Wizard, but I dont know if this is in XP. Just copy all your data to an external disk and copy back into 7.

For drivers, yes, you will need Windows 7 drivers, available from any good hardware supplier website, if not already in Windows 7.

Have a read into the User State Migration Tool. Your right about the external drive being your saviour here. Personally i'd just round up all you files and bookmarks folder and pen drive them.

As for drivers, make note of your current network connection device (eithernet or wifi) and pen drive the latest 7 version, Vista driver failing that. 7 is really good with drivers though, you may not even need to search about, windows update should find most unless you bought your PC from Fred Flintstone ;)
