what happend to this game ?, i remember when it first came out, then they did a remake in the source engine. and i havnt seen it since lol

do people still play it ?

it used to good when it first came out !

You cant have been looking very hard. DoD:Source is still popular, many active servers and lots of maps. I pop on every now and then for a blast.

Source paled in comparison to the version running on the old HL engine, Valve pretty much ignored it as well, leaving only a handful of official maps. Last time I played it there wasn't many custom maps worth downloading and it had hardly any classes compared to the original mod from the HL1 days. :(

The source version didn't get the support it needed and tbh it kind of sucked through it was very good in many ways - the weapons had laughable recoil and spread to the point a very short burst with a machinegun without deploying it would leave you literally looking at the sky and the smgs shot ~6 foot groupings in single shot fire at 10-12 feet range :( (I may be slightly exaggerating as its awhile since I played it but it wasn't far short of that bad if not that bad).

Spent many many hours on the original DoD - fondly remember the 4+ hour "battles" where scores would creep into the 100s heh.

Game pretty much died after dod source came out, even the forums got merged into the valve forums and the old community basically died with it. Was a great mod but once it became a retail game I think some of the soul of it was lost in the shuffle. From what I can remember the dod team basically left to do other things for the most part, not even sure if there's more than a couple that are still at Valve.

Still remember anticipating this trailer and having deployable MG's in the game, good times to be a gamer long in the past now :(

At the 1 minute mark it still looks like the German at the back is laughing at the guy being sniped, it was actually a coughing animation. :)

I've recently started playing the source version about once a week after not playing it for ages, I really like it, always have good fun.

yes, the good old days :D

can it still be bought ?, i don't have it on the steam account i have now, i sold my old one a few years ago when i stopped gaming. and dod went with it :(

would love to have a blast on it :D

edit: nvm, just found it on steam :p

Used to play this a lot too, friends preferred CS, but I loved DoD, could be a lot more tactical too. Had it on steam a while back, but it just disappears every now and then for some reason, bought it twice. Not going to a 3rd time.

Played it so much, one of the best games ever made, the teamwork was awesome. Then DoD source came out and they introduced the "cone of fire" where the bullets would randomize into a cone, the devs later admitted this was because they didn't want new people getting owned by older players. Still enjoyable but not near the original's standards.

Dod was great pre ver 1.0, when it was beta. When it went source it was crap and had lost its charm.

Hated it - completely ruined what would have otherwise been a really great game - the fact that even with the most controlled and careful aim in the world you'd struggle to shoot better than ~6 foot to scale groupings at close range really should have told them how stupid the idea was if they had a half a brain.

The Community is still pretty active for DoD Source. I play it all the time. I could recommend a few great servers if anyone's interested?

I've sunk way more time then I should have into this.It does lacks a little touch of class from the original, and I do miss playing as the Brits (Bren FTW), but it's still great fun.

Think there's one or two servers up (that get full) on the original DoD.

I miss it too much :( It was my first online game, and being relatively new I was always playing on american servers, not realising my ping was shocking haha!
