I just downloaded Day of Defeat source off steam because its at a low price, but i cant play it at all! It takes ages to get on a server, and just as its about the finish it crashes and i alt tab out and i get a run time error, ive got onto 1 server so far, and it wouldnt get past the opening screen because it just crashed with the music all stuttering and every slow responding.

I just paid for this so why isnt that damn thing working?

EDIT: CSS works flawlessly still, so what the hell is the problem?

ok thanks, where abouts is that? Is that verify your files?

I had one good game, but only when the graphics settings are at default (except res), and DX mode just says 0.0 or something.

nope not working, still getting these run time errors, and im sorry im not download again after all that.

IT wont work when i put it in dx9 mode

crappy thing

edit: redownloading, why doesnt it start from 0%? its starting from 71%.

It starts for 71% because the base source filess were already downloaded for HL2 and/or CSS. All the games use the base source files to run. I think they are source engine, materials and sounds.

Mine runs fine but does seem to get the alt tab error you describe every now and then, havent bothered looking for a fix yet.

Is this the R605 C++ Runtime Error?

If so I'm getting the same thing with the cinematic mod for HL2. It appears as though it's a Source specific Vista bug to do with memory management. No fix yet.

Not that this helps, but no problems with DOD:S and Vista here. I'd definetly go with the deletion of the profile folder.

z0mbi3's probably onto the culprit, but try disabling your firewall before starting. Oddly I could not play HL1 with it enabled. Obviously enable it again as soon as you've tested it once.

Update....
Check this out, as it may describe a solution

Basically says that Internet toolbars are the cause. Thats Google and such

No comfort but

Not a fix but DOD:S is a great little game and is often overlooked. So if you stick with it, it’s great fun when you get it up and running. No comfort at the moment I know. :(

tbh im waiting untill i get my new isp (BE most probably) before i start downloading again, its agonizinly slow :p

Shame it didnt work, because the one game i did play was actually really fun.
