dodgy chip or motherboard HIGH TEMPS

hi there
have recently got a cheap chip and a motherboard for a computer for someone else in my family to use.

it is a q6600
and the motherboard is an intel DQ45CB

the chip is running at 2.4ghz and 1.2 volts.

BUT THE TEMPS
45 idle to begin with. creeps up to about 70/80 idle sometimes :eek:

ive tried 3 different coolers but no avail. would this be a dodgy chip or board?

Sounds like poor airflow in the case. Try with side panel off, room fan blowing into side, to check.

sorry forgot to say. it was with the side panel off on a table so plenty of air flow.

have tried few different kinds of pastes.
3 coolers including a h55 an antec cooler and a low profile cooler.

all temps just creep up and level off about 80

it only goes to 82 on full load also so its basically doing load temps on idle aswell.

1 front and 1 exhaust fan.

So the idle temps start at 45 and rise to 80 ish?

What's the clock speed and CPU usage at idle? Also get a second opinion on that temp measurement - I'd recommend Realtemp. You might need to use an older version.
yeah starts around that and raises
it sits 1 2.4ghz the whole time. it sits about 20-30 at idle.

I can put it under full load in cinebench and aida 64 and it will still be the same temps as it does idle

Stock intel cooler?

I've a little server that runs quite warm at idle also. Doesnt seem to cause any problems and I'll probably redo the TIM at some point but I'm not expecting the temps to come down that much.

currently an akasa k25 low profile cooler. have had a old corsair h55 on it which tamed my old amd phenom x4 940 overclocked so yeah.

And what's the CPU usage at "idle"? It sounds like something is swamping the processor at all times if the temps are the same in Cinebench as doing nothing.

Process Explorer is quite handy for this sort of thing. See if anything is using loads of CPU.

Also just for info what's the OS?

sorry thought replied to that one. its 10-20% so its not overly high.
windows 10 pro 64bit

Sometimes the max temp will be exactly double the current temp, always, when using HWMonitor (and possibly others). Make sure you only lpokt at the "value" column if this is the case!

going to try a reinstall of the OS later and programs again and try a few different tempature gauges and see what is happening

tried my h55 AIo and the cooler I got with it . a larger akasa cooler about couble the size of the stock with a 80mm fan. still idles @ 70-80 testing temps with different tools. if I post my bios settings here is there anyone who could Pm me and see if anything is misconfigured?
