Dodgy emissions?!

So apart from 2 bulbs and one spot of rust my car has failed it's MOT on:-

Exhaust emissions carbon monoxide content at idle excessive.

Exhaust emissions carbom monoxide content after 2nd fast idle excessive.

Exhaust emissions hydrocarbon content after 2nd fast idle excessive.

Any idea how they can put that right and how much it's gonna cost? The car goes in Tuesday, but I would like to be prepared for what it's gonna cost (roughly)!

rag the crap out of it prior to the MOT test, get the cat as hot as possible, maybe run some redex through it?

I'd probably just go for a blast, use high revs and see if that cures it. Heard of it doing so before!

It's what I done when my Saxo failed on emissions.

1/2 bottle of Redex to 1/4 of fuel is what I done.

Passed them though
