Hey guys a couple of weeks ago we recieved a Home Hub 3 from BT as an upgrade from our original Home Hub, but we had problems with it and sent it back as requested by BT as it was capping the internet at 1mb so they said it was faulty! We now have another new one and the internet speed is fine, but the wireless is usless. If you're more than 6feet away the wireless signal comes on and off as it pleases and this on all devices, laptop, iPhone, Xbox Live etc! BT say it's to do with the router settings even though they are still on factory default

The only thing I can think it could be is the frequency the wireless signal is on?! At the moment it is on "Smart" which automatically chooses the least busiest frequency although you can choose between "Channel 1" all the way up to "Channel 11"! Do you guys suggest I play around with the channels the wireless goes out on? Just wandering as I don't like playing with settings i'm not sure about :(

Thanks.

That's just the Homehub, mate, it's what they're like. Let's humour BT here though. :p

Can you not see channels 12 and 13? Also, can you select different output power modes? Do you have any Wireless-N devices? If not, set the wireless mode to "G only" or something to that effect for slightly better performance (mixed B, G and/or N can reduce performance).

Parents have BT HH3 which I had a fiddle with so going to try remember what I did when I first got it which was about a year ago...

Turned power options to the max, didn't like the idea of wireless randomly "turning off" after midnight.

Turned off the smart wireless and slapped it to Channel 11, as I found that to be the best channel compared to the others (although they live in a low wireless traffic area). This could be your problem, there might be a lot of inteference in your area so have a fiddle with this and see what channel's best for you.

May also be worth getting BT to turn off the access the access for Openzone that is defaulted on with all their routers. Had a similar issue with my bro-in-law. Got then to turn it off and hey presto, steady wireless. Took a few phone calls and they were adamant that it was not that causing an issue, but insist they turn it off. Is rather cheeky them turning it on by default me thinks

You can opt out of it manually on their website these days, that's what I did when I got Infinity. 'Was a quick and painless process as I recall, and might definitely help.
