Hi All,

It's not often i ask for help from anyone but i need to now.

I received a second hand CPU today and i'm having a few problems.

It is meant to be an Athlon XP 2500 Barton but it shows as an XP1900+ in the POST screen. Setting it to the Barton 2500 speeds results in a non-boot so i'm puzzled. I thought Barton cores were 2500+, 2800+, 3000+ and 3200+ only?

The motherboard i'm using is a Soltek N-Force 2 Ultra 400 - SL-75FRN2 RL. It has the most recent BIOS (D2.0) loaded. I have reset the BIOS as well as reloading v2.0 BIOS to no avail.

Do any Barton cored 1900+ CPUs exist?

TIA

Could be wrong but I think the rating given to an XP chip in the BIOS and Windows depends on matching the frequency you have set it to and the chip cache, to a table. Is your memory speed lower than the required front side bus of the 2500+?

I have already downloaded the most recent version of CPU-Z as it has been a great help in the past. LOL

It states the CPU is Barton cored but is an XP1900. Does the app. read this information from the BIOS or does it read ir directly from the core?

TIA :)

The Barton 2500 ran at 1833 mhz default, 166 fsb x 11 multi. Although i had mine oc'ed to 2Ghz as i didn't want to push it further, upped the bus to 200 and dropped the multiplier to 10.
