Does a brand matter?

Hi,

Currently putting together a build that's been about 5 years overdue. This is usually way beyond what I could usually justify but I've worked my ass off over last couple of months to justify it.

I was originally planning to use the Corsair Vengeance DDR5 32gb CL30, but the cheapest I can get this is currently £390. I have found some T-Force Delta DDR5 32gb CL30 for £320. For the price difference, is the T-Force Delta the best to go for? They both do EXPO from what I can tell. This will be matched with a 850 board, 5090 and Ryzen 7 9800x3d. I predominantly sim race in VR. For info, i'm currently running on a i7 6770K and a 1060 from 8 years ago so upgrade is gonna be huge.

Thanks in advance!

Regards,

I'm not too fussed if the RAM chips are Hynix, Samsung or Micron.

I only really have my eye on Kingston or Corsair as a brand, because if the RAM goes wrong, they both have UK RMA addresses. Probally PNY will be quick as they are in France.

I think Crucial provide prepaid, can't remember as it was one year ago when I asked about it. For both RAM and SSDs, they get returned to a UK address, and the RMA forwarded and dealt with by the Czech Republic.

The rest are lengthy Netherlands, Taiwan, China or USA with possible high shipping costs if you go direct, and depending on the retailer might take ages anyway.

I've only ever had one set of DDR DOA (G.Skill - took 6 weeks) and one set of DDR2 Ram ever fail after some use (Corsair - took a week) the sticks were running hot, I suspect the motherboard was overvolting, typical of Asus motherboards back then.

It only matters when it comes to RMA.
And in my experience, RMA is one of those things were it's entirely dependent on whomever you get to deal with the RMA.
And given the way companies operate these days, it's down to sheer luck and the alignment of the stars you get someone competent to deal with the issue.

It's the same with branded clothing. Those 500 dollar jeans are made in the same sweatshop as the 10 dollar jeans.

The only 'value addition' of going with a branded product over a 'no name' product is that you're paying extra for the marketing.
Nothing else.

Hi there

OcUK sells most of the brands:

Crucial - Micron IC we will be stocking Crucial until around May/June as we brung in huge volumes when they announced pulling out, its a popular brand for us, sold it since the DDR1 and Ballistic days.
Klevv - SK-Hynix IC, currently the best value memory on the market and the most overclockable, prices are insane but £299 for a 6000C30 32G kit is best in market at present.
Corsair - Sources from Micron, SK-Hynix and Samsung
TeamGroup - Sources from Micron, SK-Hynix and Samsung and every single module they ship is hand tested prior to shipping.
G.Skill - Sources from Micron, SK-Hynix and Samsung, they push the envelope in what is possible and offer very blingy ram, is our no.1 consumer selling brand some months.
Kingston - Sources from Micron, SK-Hynix and Samsung, superb brand, privately owned and also great for server products.
Adata - Sources from Micron, SK-Hynix and Samsung and is the no.1 and biggest brand in Taiwan
Biwin / Origin - Sources from Micron, SK-Hynix and Samsung and their Origin arm sells the fastest and highest capacity EXPO qualified kits in the world. (Arrived today at OcUK)
V-Color - Sources from Micron, SK-Hynix and Samsung and is the only memory to feature an OLED screen (arriving at OcUK next week)
Lexar - Sources from CMXT (Chinese IC), Micron typically.

OcUK is the no.1 in UK for memory, no one holds more brands in stock and we are generally the lowest price as well. 16G DDR5 kits from £169.99 and 32G 6000C30 kits from £299, so leading the market and doing what we can for customers in these tough times.

If there is a memory brand you would like to see at OcUK or a product from the above brands, feel free to suggest it and I shall get it in. :)

My personal favourites are G.Skill (own a Royal C26 6000Mhz kit - love the bling) and Klevv FIT V for their no fuss looks but superb IC quality guaranteed for great OC potential even on budget ram, reminds me of the Samsung green sticks back in the day, cheap and hugely overclockable.
