Does a comfortable sofa bed / chair bed exist?

Looking at some ways of making some space in a spare room and one option is to remove the guest single bed and replace it with a single chair bed instead as it spends 99% of its time not being used (room is too small for a double).

Anyone got one or stayed on one that was actually comfy? All the ones I've tried have usually been uncomfortable as both a bed or chair and looking online reviews seem to suggest this is a common trait.

I'm more concerned about it being a comfy chair tbh as can always add a mattress topper or something if needed later.

I've found the trick with getting a comfy sofa bed is getting one with sprung slats.

You're never going to get a thick mattress on a sofa bed so the added flexibility of sprung slats, rather than a solid base, makes all the difference.

The IKEA day beds allow you to us most of their matresses. We have a bay bed in other halfs office that has two matresses on it as it extends out to a double.
Its super comfy. Its possibly too squidgy with the double matress on it if sitting for a long period. BUt if you never planned to extend it you could use just one.

This is the one we have

Forget which matresses though

I have slept on it by mistake as it was so comfy I fell asleep

Similar to above but we have the https://www.ikea.com/gb/en/products...2-mattresses-white-malfors-firm-spr-19129871/

It's been a great buy in our second bedroom - folds up to a single, pulls out into a double and has extra storage underneath. It's comfortable enough for the odd night to sleep on - though we went with the cheap mattress option (don't want it too comfy for visitors in case they prolong their stay)

Thanks all, been having a look through and seeing some potential options.

We've got one of these;

It's not much of a sofa but, despite appearances, I found it very comfortable to sleep on. Used it for a few months when our youngest was born, as she would only sleep in with Mrs Cheesyboy. Slept like a log.

They have a single bed equivalent:

I saw that one but it just doesn't look very comfy to sit on and it will used more as a chair than it would a bed. Does look nice and compact though.

Been having a look at some pull out divan guest beds, might be the better way to go as we could get a proper chair for the other room then. Measured it up and found one that would just fit in the other bedroom but it would mean that you would have to walk over the lower bed to get to the main bed, hopefully they are strong enough for that.

I hear Futon Company aren't bad.
I'm looking a sofa that folds out to a double, but sleeps 'sideways', due to room restrictions. People keep mentioning FC.

I really like our futon from the Futon Company. It's lasted really well and I find it very comfortable to both sit and sleep on. Can't comment on the single chair types, but the sofa is very good IMO.
