Does a freesync monitor mean I need an AMD gpu to utilise it?

Basically in the title.

I have a 1070 gpu that needs upgrading eventually anyway.
If I have a freesync monitor does that mean I need an AMD gpu to make most of it?

What monitor is it ?

Mine isn't on their list as being GSync compatible (BenQ EX3501R), but it is, and it works fine

Frankly no, i have a Free-Sync monitor, its not an expensive one AOC Q3279VWFD8 Its certainly not marked as "G-Sync compatible" My GTX 1070 ran the screen in G-Sync mode perfectly, turned it on and forgot about it.... it worked well.

That's great. One less thing to worry about
