Does a splitter harm audio quality?

Theres one fatal flaw with my xonar D2X and that is there is no front panel audio connector, i cant have my Z5500 and headset+mic all plugged in at the same time which is a real shame. I dont want to use digital as it defeats the point of having the xonar to begin with.

Im thinking about using a splitter like this:

Im gonna put that on the 3.5mm green port so i can plug both the speakers and the headset in at the same time. Will it harm audio quality? Any adverse side effects?

It will definately cause a loss in quality but it will probably be so small its unnoticable

Until you connect one to a setup costing 250k and analyse it without then with the splitter, i dont think you can make a statement like that

Sure I can, there's no reason at all why it would a difference. Why do you think it will? Just because a lot of people historically parrot the same answer when a question like this comes up it doesn't make it true and I know from your other posting here that this is just what you're doing.

Any kind of joint will have different impedence (however slight) and as such alter the signal.

It would be practically unnoticable, even with the right measuring equipment.

sort of relating to this topic I am going to chime in with my interesting issue at the moment. I am using Yamaha HS50M speakers (Active monitors) with an iMac. I am using a splitter and 3.4mm to 6.3mm cables and I am getting some interesting feedback. They generally sound great but when I move my mouse around I hear a change in very low level feedback when I use spaces or move my mouse to do different things. What could be causing this? I am slightly concerned, and baffled.

I get that too. Its interferance within the PC case.

Its because the cable inside is not shielded. If you use the back panel its fine.
