Morning guys, hope you are all well - Have been rummaging around and found a nice chunky 1000VA UPS, and thought. mhmm, i could make use of that.

My only concern is the ammount of power that it may draw from my mains=. now, i do relise that it may draw a slightly higher current (to charge the batteries) but aside this factor will it be likely to draw much more power (if any when charged) than plugging my pc into the mains directly.

I have tried to research this on the web, and cannot really find an answer.

I haven't researched so this is just a guess but no, I wouldn't have thought there will be a significant difference. It will be more since you have put an extra level in between the power and the destination but probably not massively so. :)

There will always be a bit of battery drain that will need to be recharged and there's the power of actually running the UPS internal systems but I doubt it would be much. You're probably talking the low side of 50W~.

depending on the efficiency and type of usp your looking at a peak of 50w, down to ~5w when charged for a ups that only powers the load when power fails to ~10-15% extra on top of the attached devices if the ups is the more advanced sort that constanty powers the load from its battery via te inverter and constantly charges the battery from the mains.

My ups uses about 40watts, cos a ups is constantly monitoring the incoming mains power, and only sending clean and constant power to your pc equipment.
